MORE ABOUT OUR CHURCH

Thanks for coming here to find out more about us.  We are proud of our church and its ministry and hope that the following description prompts you to come and visit us soon.

Green Street Baptist is an American Baptist Church.  We are proud of our identity as American Baptists, because American Baptists are a caring, open minded, ecumenical, deeply committed, mission minded Christian family.  Jesus is the center of what we do and why we do it.

We find in the Bible, the story of God's work and his revelation of himself in the person of Jesus Christ.  In that revelation, we see a God whose primary message to his creation is a mandate to love - to love God and to love one another.  That is a full time business . . . and a challenge that lasts a lifetime for those who would take it seriously.

If you were to enter Green Street Baptist unannounced, it is likely that one of the first sounds you would hear would be laughter.  We laugh a lot.  This is a happy place.  Whether it be a committee meeting, a Bible Study, a fellowship gathering, a work project, or a Youth Group meeting - we laugh, tease, and play.  Some would find this irreverent - we find it the opposite, the expresion of God's love and joy among us.

Worship happens on Sunday mornings at 11:00 a.m.  During that hour you will find a nice mixture of traditional and contemporary worship.  On the traditional side, you will sing the Gloria Patri and the Doxology, you will say the Lord's Prayer, you will be invited to share prayer requests.  On the contemporary side, the Children's Story or Sermon, while it may be traditional, could contain the unexpected or unique.  There is no need for worship to be boring - we don't worship a boring God and we're not boring people - there is no need for the hour we spend together in worship to be boring either.

Sharing the bounty that God has given to us with others is central to our identity.  We participate in a variety of mission endeavors - including local involvements like the Bread of Life feeding ministry, to National and International Outreach programs through our denomination.  The Green Street family is generous.  That generousity is one of the highest expressions of Christian faith.  God calls us to care about all his children - we take that call to heart.

At Green Street Baptist, you will find the things you would expect:  an active Church School, Youth Groups for children 8 years through High School, a number of Fellowship Groups for Adults, Bible Study, Social Activities, Fund Raising Activities, Special Seasonal Activities, etc. etc.  There are endless opportunities to learn, serve and fellowship together.

There is, of course, much more that could be said . . . but the best thing to do now, is to invite you to come and visit us and feel who we are.  There is a loving church family here.  There is the warm, welcoming Spirit of Christ here.  There is a place for you, if you would like.
